The problem Money Mosaic- Empower Immigrants Financially solves
The Global Financial Exclusion Crisis:
Money Mosaic tackles the systematic financial exclusion of 281+ million immigrants globally—a massive, underserved population facing critical barriers to financial participation and wealth building. This isn't just a niche problem; it's a global financial exclusion crisis hiding in plain sight.
Scale of the Problem:
Massive Global Market:
- United States: 50.6M immigrants (15.28% of population)
- Germany: 15.8M immigrants (18.81% of population)
- Canada: 8M immigrants (21.33% of population)
- Australia: 7.7M immigrants (30.14% of population)
- UAE: 8.7M immigrants (88.13% of population)
Total addressable market: 281+ million people across top 10 immigrant destinations
End-User's Critical Real-life Problems:
-
Universal Credit Invisibility (Affects 100% of new immigrants)
Every immigrant arrives with no credit history in their new country, creating an impossible catch-22: they need credit to access loans, credit cards, or even rent apartments, but can't build credit without access to these same systems. This forces families into expensive alternatives and predatory lending cycles. -
Language & Knowledge Barriers (Documented 5x Banking Usage Gap)
Households speaking only foreign languages are 5x less likely to use traditional banking systems. Complex financial terminology and English/French-only documentation create insurmountable barriers to informed financial decision-making, forcing reliance on expensive alternatives like money orders. -
Banking System Navigation (Cash Economy Trap)
Many immigrant families operate entirely within cash economies, missing opportunities for wealth building, credit development, and the financial security that traditional banking provides.
Product Strategy & Approach:
Vision
In order to tackle these challenges, we are taking a platform approach, named as - Money Mosaic. As part of this platform strategy we have built a pilot app (named as LoonieToonieCanada.ca) to tackle the challenge in Canada first.
We will be scaling Money Mosaic globally based on the success of the pilot app. Below is the phase-wise approach to expand the platform globally:
Phase 1: Canada pilot (LoonieToonieCanada.ca) targeting 8M immigrants (21.33% of population)
Phase 2: US expansion targeting 50.6M immigrants
Phase 3: Global scaling across 281M+ immigrant population
The Pilot

Description: A Financial Literacy App for Immigrants in Canada - LoonieToonieCanada.ca (Build on Lovable)
Why Loonie Toonie as Pilot?: Named after Canada's one-dollar coin, the "Loonie" - a symbol of Canadian currency and financial system that newcomers need to understand. And more importantly, Madhuri has experience these challenges first hand for last 7 years in Canada.
Pilot Scope: Loonie Toonie Canada is starting as a pilot project with the Canadian immigrant community, focusing on:
- Simple explanations of key financial terms and products (RRSPs, RESPs, TFSAs, credit scores, etc.).
- Personalized learning journeys, adapting to a user’s financial knowledge level.
- Interactive features like quizzes, flashcards, and videos to make learning engaging.
- Practical tools such as a paper trading simulator for the TSX, helping users practice investment decisions risk-free.
The Platform

Description: Money Mosaic - A Financial Empowerment Platform for Immigrants (build on WINDSURF). An attempt for solving financial literacy problem for immigrants globally, helping them get financial included and ultimately empowering them towards Financial Freedom.
Why Money Mosaic as Platform?: The challenge at hand is multi-faceted involving financial literacy of immigrant which is one of the core reasons for people to move abroad. But the use cases expands to offering them services to open bank account, get credit card, build credit history, etc. and finally help them in their wealth building journey. So the platform involves Financial Literacy App, Integration with Partner banks or Financial Institutions, etc. and finally portfolio management services.
Conclusion
Loonie Toonie Canada represents how AI and no-code tools can help transform ideas into solutions that matter. By addressing financial literacy gaps for immigrants, this pilot project hopes to create a runway take Money Mosaic on a global scale, empowering communities one step at a time !
Challenges we ran into
Challenges & Learnings:
Multiple Challenges – From a Product Manager’s Lens
(Note: both of us are product managers, not engineers, so these challenges reflect our perspective as non-coders experimenting with AI tools during a hackathon.)
We decided to used AI throughout the entire journey in Buildathon -- right from first step of market research till last step of deck creation:
- Used ChatGPT Plus & Perplexity Pro for Ideation, Strategy, Research, Use Case Identification, TDD.
- Again ChatGPT Plus and Google AI Mode for de-bugging and getting simplified instructions.
- All the relevant tools such as Lovable, Windsurf, ElevanLabs
- NotebookLM & Gamma for deck creation.
Tools-specific challenges & learnings:
Windsurf:
- Authentication & subsequent profile creation:
Challenge:
- We faced big hurdle to get past the first sign-up/sign-in page itself early on. Even after constant de-bugging with Windsurf for 3 days, we couldn't get it resolved.
- Ultimately decided to abandon the project and start over just 2 days before deadline.
- The issue was spread across so many files and use cases that we felt the need of technical expertise.
Learning:
- One key learning from this roadblock is keep thinking big but start simple, then gradually add complexity.
- In this implementation, I took too many complexity early on -- social login support, multilingual capability across 4 languages, RLS policies, all these while implementing authentication system.
- Internationalisation Implementation:
Challenge:
- In our second attempt, we corrected our previous mistake to starting simple and then gradually adding complexity. However, again faced constant roadblocks in this implementation.
- Very often, we come to realise that the tool didn't applied translations to all the pages, modals, CTAs, etc. and didn't understand the approach it took for implementation.
- Without proper logging, error handling and visibility into implementation approach, we wasted one full day in getting these issues resolved constantly.
Learning:
- Implement clean logging early one in the project. This helped understand the real issue more easily to help in de-bugging.
- Always asked Windsurf to explain to me in very simple terms (as I am a beginner) what is the issue and then provide your recommendation. This approach helped in understanding the RCA of the issue in simplistic terms and get a good grasp of the project.
Eleven Labs
Challenge:
- it wasn’t very clear how to integrate an agent into a website, which would have been valuable for our prototype.
Overall Key Learnings:
- Building a prompt library with proper forward planning is the key. It took us 50% of the time to reach here. But once we created it executing them took just 10% of time. (That's when we started Vibing !)
- Prompt Strategy need to be meticulously crafted. Prompts need to be accurate, structured and clear, & more importantly prompt flow need to be gradual, top-down and bite-sized.
- PRD becomes more important as it become the basis of prompt creation for context setting.
- Proper Logging, Error handling and Fall back mechanism is as important as cross-check with the tool what has it implemented.
- Remaining 40% of the time went in coming out of rabbit holes of issues/bug/gaps. Build this project 3 times over to get here !
